Pushing Limits and Paying Tribute | The Murph Prep Cycle Begins

Today marks the beginning of our Murph Prep Cycle, and a little earlier than usual! We always get fired up when Murph is on the horizon. This is not only a chance to honor an American Hero, but a chance to hold ourselves to the highest possible movement standard. Every Monday leading up to Memorial Day, we will be completing a "Murph Prep" workout to prepare for the challenge.

Who is Murph?

But who is this person that we are honoring with such a grueling workout? Michael Murphy, or "Murph" as he was affectionately known, was a US Navy SEAL who lost his life during a mission in Afghanistan in 2005. During the operation, Murphy and his team found themselves outnumbered and under heavy fire. Despite the overwhelming odds, Murphy made the decision to leave cover and radio for backup, knowing that it would put him in harm's way. He was tragically killed in action, but his bravery and selflessness inspired many.

The Workout

In honor of his sacrifice, the "Murph" workout was created. It consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and another one-mile run, all done while wearing a weighted vest. This workout is not for the faint of heart, but it serves as a reminder of the incredible sacrifice that Murphy and other service members have made for our country.

As we embark on our Murph Prep Cycle, we encourage you to learn more about Michael Murphy and the sacrifices he made. There are numerous resources available, including movies and many books. By honoring his memory and pushing ourselves to our limits, we can pay tribute to this American hero and all those who have given their lives in service to our country.
